“I am diagnosing you with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder”
I was sat in a psychiatrists office days after one of the worst breakdowns of my life when those words were uttered. My response? “OK”. It was just another label to put on myself alongside #depression #anxiety #asd. This was at a point in my life when I felt utterly hopeless. I was constantly having breakdowns, binging on alcohol and drugs and thinking about ending it all.
Since then for over 300 days I have been clean of drugs, had no hospital admissions and have been attending therapy.
But EUPD/ BPD still effects me on a daily basis and I know it always will in one way or another. And that’s why I want to start this blog. I am still piecing bits together and getting to understand myself more and more and I would like to document my learning and maybe one day help somebody else who is in my position too.
I wouldn’t be doing as well as I am now without the existing BPD bloggers and vloggers out there. They gave me so much reassurance after I was first diagnosed- simply reading other peoples’ stories and seeing similarities made me feel less alone and that there were people out there who really understood me.
So, that’s it for my introduction I guess! There’s a lot I want to talk about but here are just a few posts I want to make in the future…
- The shortcomings of the mental health service
- Witnessing a suicide
- Correlation between BPD and Autism
- Positive character traits that come from BPD
- BPD and alcohol
- DBT: does it work?
